The first of its kind in Goa, ‘Super8OTT Tiatr and Film Awards 2023’ – an event conceptualized and executed by cinematographer and cameraman, Joywin Fernandes – brought smiles and cheers to the winners from the Goan tiatr and film industry.
The handful of tiatrs and films, featured on the ‘Super8OTT’ channel, were handpicked for the awards by a panel of jury, apart from audience appeal. The judgment ranged from best writer, director, actor and producer, negative to supporting roles, besides the longest running YouTube shows.
Appreciating the efforts put in by Joywin Fernandes in appreciating talent and art on the stage and big screen, the Art & Culture, and Sports Minister, Govind Gawde, said that such events, held in a big and professional way, will boost the morale of the participants and take them to greater heights.
“Mere hard work on stage, or on the silver screen, will not work,” he continued. “But, smart work, which includes achieving a realistic presentation and a timeframe to reach the goal will yield better results.”
“When it comes to producing new films,” the minister continued, “producers and filmmakers often look at what the government can do in order to sustain such a project. Forget about government aid, instead, do what best you can to give the best to tiatr-lovers and film buffs, and the rest will automatically follow.”
“Tiatrs and films are a good platform to come out vocally whenever there’s injustice prevalent in society,” the minister added. “Burning issues, raised in tiatrs and films, will always keep society connected to it.”
“It will also conscientize viewers, thus serving as an eye-opener to all,” he mentioned.
Throwing light on the ‘Super8OTT’, the mastermind behind the whole show, Joywin Fernandes said that it was launched in order to cater to the entertainment needs of Goans settled abroad.
“Due to various engagements,” he said, “People have little time to come to auditoriums and enjoy a tiatr or film. This channel allows you to sit back at home and enjoy the tiatrs or movies of your choice.”
Speaking about the launch of the channel, Fernandes said that ‘Super8OTT’ came to light on March 28, 2023 and till date, there are 6 Konkani films and 9 tiatrs that the audience, anywhere in the world, can enjoy on the channel.
“And 6 months from now, more tiatrs and films will be made available. People just have to log in, pay for the tiatr or film and enjoy within the four walls of the house,” he concluded.
One of the awardees, who picked up awards for, both, tiatrs and films, Prince Jacob, said that the presentation of the awards was an excellent initiative which would motivate the winners to work hard and give their best in the future.
“More than anything else, our work on the tiatr stage and big screen is recognized and duly rewarded. What more can we expect from the organizers of ‘Super8OTT channel’,” he said.
“Such appreciation and recognition should come from the government as well since it will boost the morale, not only of the writers, directors and actors of the tiatr stage, but also small-time filmmakers and producers of Konkani films,” said another best actor (film) awardee, Meena Goes.
“Much effort is put in to produce the best and give the audience something they like, and when all these struggles go in vain and are not recognized, it is very discouraging,” she said.
