After mastering the art of penning and staging zomnivhele fell during the Carnival festival for several years, Jose de Benaulim has now stepped on to the Konkani stage and proved himself as a writer and director of tiatr.

Jose de Benaulim’s tiatr, Tum Korta Ti Vatt, focuses on extra-marital ties and how these can lead to disaster for a family. There are lessons to be picked up by wedded couples and those in lasting relationships as husband and wife.

ABOUT THE TIATR

The story revolves around Edgar (Elvis) and Kaira (Carmin), who are happily married and blessed with a daughter, Ambeny (Aliva). As a grandfather, Edgar’s father (Jose de Benaulim) takes utmost care of Ambeny and leaves no stone unturned as far as fulfilling his responsibility of dropping his granddaughter to school.

One fine day, on her birthday, Kaira makes a wish and seeks a flat in the city from her husband. When residing in a comfortable and spacious bungalow, Edgar wonders why Kaira is making such an absurd demand.

Irrespective of whether her demand will be fulfilled or rejected, Kaira justifies by giving the excuse that her daughter has to travel all the way from the village to the city. Edgar isn’t pleased by Kaira’s justification.

Instead of purchasing a new flat, and that too in the city, Edgar assures his wife about upgrading the existing structure. He renovates the bungalow with all the modern facilities.

Over a period of time, Edgar leaves his wife and daughter behind and flies to the UK. Husband’s absence is advantageous to Kaira. She immediately returns to her ex-fiancée, Roger (Prakash Marathe).

Roger is not serious about Kaira, but prefers to be a playboy to her. Kaira is unaware of Roger’s wicked plans. She spends all her husband’s hard-earned money on Roger.

Will Kaira find fulfillment and happiness with Roger? Will she get what she expected from her husband? Will Kaira and Roger’s ties last long? In such a tight situation, what is Ambeny’s fate? As Edgar returns from the UK, what follows next in the family?

BEHIND THE SCENES

Elvis and Carmin have given good performances as spouses. They are supported by the director, Jose de Benaulim, Crostina and Manu. In the negative role, Prakash Marathe stands tall and plays it confidently. Child artiste, Aliva, has some fine acts on stage and she delivers quite confidently.

For some laughter moments, comedian Inas, Aurelio, Caetan and Andrea come together with their laughter pills. The comical quartet shares a good dose of laughter with the audience. There’s one scene wherein comedian Caetan and Amresh Kamat come together and tickle the funny bone of the spectators.

For the listening pleasure of tiatr-lovers, Holly steps on the stage to render the opening song and he does it in style.

There’s another solo from the same singer a little later. Solos from Victor Cunha, Jr Reagan, Andrea and Kishore follow during the presentation.

There are also some thought-provoking songs from Elvis and Carmin, and Peter de Arambol and Agusto de Calangute. A duo, trio and a quartet would have made the tiatr a complete entertainer.
