PANAJI: The might be visually impaired but that did not stop these students from the National Association for the Blind (NAB) from pursuing their passion for creating visual images through photography.
Twenty five students from NAB and Sanjay Centre for Special Education participated in a two-day photography workshop conducted by renowned photographer Payal Kakkar.
“This is the first time I am conducting a workshop for the visually impaired, so I had to prepare myself keeping in mind their challenges. But surprisingly they were very smart and their grasping power which made it easier for me to teach them,” Kakkar said.
Kakkar is an architectural photographer from Delhi currently based in Goa.
The students along with Kakkar had gone to the Old Goa churches to get hands on experiencing in photography. “These students are special because their emotional quotient is very high. They clicked photographs from their phone and came to me asking whether it’s up to the mark.”
The workshop was conducted as a part of Muzzachem Fest - inclusivity and accessibility - which will be held at NAB premises at Santa Cruz on February 2. The photographs clicked by these students will be exhibited at the fest.
“I feel proud that these students, despite their physical challenge, have performed so well,” NAB president Rozendo Mendonsa told GT.
“For a sighted person photography can be easy, but for someone who is even partially blind it is a big task. I am glad the students took up this challenge and performed it successfully,” Mendonsa said adding that more such workshops should be conducted to promote inclusivity of the blind and visually impaired in the society.
