“Kalliz boom bang zata”, a song written by Chris Perry and performed by Tony Carr and Delphine, has been given a different rhythm by Myron Lucas and the members of the 7 Notes Band and is going viral on the internet with influencers using the song for their reels and videos.
Myron has spiced up the song with his distinct and endearing voice.
As a kid, Myron says that he had a dream to become a guitarist. He says, “A priest named Fr Christi was sent to St Francis Xavier Church, Chicalim, for two months as an assistant. I requested him to teach me the guitar, and he willingly agreed and supported and trained me in the basics within a month.”
“I continued practising and learning on my own. Father also made me sing and play in the choir. This talent of singing and playing was a God’s gift to me, and I dedicated my talent towards the events of the church, whether public feasts or other gatherings,” adds Myron.
He says he improved his musical abilities while in school, especially at Fr Agnel’s Higher Secondary School, Pilar, where he met a group of musicians, three of whom are now in his band: Aviton Crasto, Astrid Jesus Fernandes and Jaime Gonsalves, as well as Dafflon Fernandes who they met subsequently.
Speaking about his journey as a vocalist, Myron says, “I won many singing competitions as a teen, but I always preferred to sing in choirs and at small functions as a duo band. I had the backing of Aaron Pereira and Aviton Crasto at these small parties.”
He says, “Later on, I was invited to be the lead guitarist in Goa’s well-known band the Archies, where I performed for 3 years and learnt more about presenting myself on stage."
"Alongside that writing and composing songs was my hobby, and producing them along with my musician friends was the beginning of the 7 Notes Production. I graduated in Arts, with an interest in the music industry,” he further adds.
The very first projects of the 7 Notes Production were “Ho mog - kallzan thaun kelolo” and “Mhojim kantaram”. But when “Kallzam ek zalim” reached one million views on YouTube and touched the hearts of viewers, they pressed the success button.
Myron and his friends were looking for a chance to fulfil their dreams of forming a band together as youngsters, and the opportunity came after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Myron says, “We came back together after COVID-19 and formed the 7 Notes Band.” Myron is the lead singer with the acoustic guitar, Aviton, Jaime, Astrid and Dafflon joined as the keyboard player, lead guitarist, bassist and drummer, respectively.
The 7 Notes Band’s creativity made people happy, and with that same creativity, they developed the mashup of the three songs: “Red rose”, “Boom bang a bang”, and “Kalliz boom bang zata”.
They turned it into a clip that went viral, demonstrating the appeal of these unusual song arrangements that link the younger generation to the classic golden era of music.
Myron says “I want the next generation to appreciate both the beauty of classic songs and the uniqueness of contemporary sounds.”
Preferring to both sing and play music, Myron views his voice as a gift from God.
Nevertheless, he says, “I would feel at ease keeping my hands free while performing and getting the audience to dance and sing along with me.”
His goal is to build connections with people, bring joy to them and showcase their pleasant expressions on stage. He gets the greatest joy from singing along with the crowd when they sing his songs in unison.
Myron enjoys singing pop, ballads and Goan folk songs with his guitar. He loves to write his own songs and compose their tunes. Therefore, for him, his compositions remain his favourite. But the one dear to his heart is “Mhojim kantaram” which he wrote as a love poem to someone very special.
He says, “It is crucial for musicians to remain competitive, create quality work and advance their craft. Many Goan artists have shown amazing talent when quite young.”
Explaining his struggles, he says, “Many people see a musician’s life as a life full of enjoyment. I love to enjoy it, too, but having numerous shows and practice periods alongside my personal life makes it very tiring sometimes. We have investments and maintenance too.”
He confides further, “Health issues scare me at times, making it difficult to sing and play. I lack being able to give time to friends and family, but I am blessed to be surrounded by a good society that gives me moral support. Fr Bolmax Pereira and Fr Peter Judas Fernandes have always been there for me to guide me in difficult times.”
Myron listens to live gospel music by various worship leaders and also loves the songs by Ed Sheeran and Arijit Singh.
He further tells us, “The only voice I admire, of a Goan singer, is Master Cannon De Souza. My favourite Goan voice. He has created music for many Goan artists and is currently the sound engineer of our band.”
Myron believes in singing and performing with all of one’s heart and soul. His next project is a song dedicated to long-distance lovers, living far away from each other.
He humbly thanks all his supporters and fans who have constantly shown their love towards him and the 7 Notes Band.
Myron is also grateful to his parents Minguel Lucas and Merciana Mesquita, along with his sisters Regina Mercy Lucas and Mitzi Mysuk Lucas. Finally, he says, “I would forever sing out my praise to the almighty for gifting me with this talent.”
