Poetry is a language that speaks to the soul. While some poetry can be two pages long others are just a few lines put together that when read can stir up emotions that are enough to make a grown man cry.

And at the end of the day, expressing yourself is not always the easiest thing to do, and most days it is not what you say, but rather how you say it that makes the difference.

WHAT IS HAIKU?

According to Wikipedia, Haiku is a short form of poetry that originated in Japan. Traditional Japanese Haiku consist of three phrases composed of seventeen syllables in a five, seven, five pattern and draws inspiration from nature, exuding simplicity at its best.

Maya, who is happy to be hosting such a workshop for the first time in Goa says, “Goa is a very pleasant setting to unravel Haiku poetry, especially with its landscape and oceans because Haiku is closely linked with nature.”

Expecting people to show up and savour the opportunity of learning, she says, “Although this ancient Japanese form of poetry has certainly evolved over time and has a modern touch, it still manages to stay true to its origin of being very simplistic, bite-sized, beautiful poetry.” She looks around and smiles as she sits at the Blue Brick Wall Café, waiting to see you on Saturday.
