Museum of Goa (MOG), Pilerne, in association with thus.critique, is organising a lecture-demo, titled ‘Threads of Tradition: Goan Kappiyali Quilt’, on August 13, 2023.
Regional Director of Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development (DTNBWED), Ministry of Labour & Employment (MOL&E), Aruna Vishnu Wagh, will be the resource person for the event, and will explore the deep associations of this art with Goan culture and tradition.
Those interested in attending the workshop can bring along some old fabric pieces which they can then upcycle using this art form. Sewing material will be provided at the venue. Registration is compulsory for participants.
The traditional art form of Godhadi, is native to Goa and Maharashtra and is all about patchwork quilts, fashioned from old saris and pieces of fabric. These works of art are not just sustainable, but also serve as bonds between grandmothers and their grandchildren.
