Not realising that our stay on this earth is for a brief period, we often tend to grow in enmity for no reason at all, amass wealth by cheating others and through corrupt means. But, once we leave this world, all the amassed wealth and possessions are left behind.
Comedian Agostinho has been known for his thought-provoking tiatrs in the past, and he continues to provide food for thought with new productions on the Konkani stage.
For the past few productions, he has been penning tiatrs, while comedian Joyel has been assisting with the direction and presentation on stage.
ABOUT THE TIATR
Comedian Agostinho’s latest tiatr, Sonvsar Chear Disancho kai Munis Chear Disancho?, directed by comedian Joyel calls for introspection. Greed for wealth, enmity among siblings, members of a family will take a man nowhere.
The story is about Reagan (Eleuterio), who is a sarpanch in a village, his spouse Lucy (Crostina), a housewife and their only son, Velber (Franky). As the village sarpanch, Reagan knows how to amass wealth illegally, and his wife is equally supportive of his actions.
Reagan is worried about his grown-up son, fearing he may go astray by lavishly spending the amassed wealth. Reagan’s elder brother, Marcos (Normandez), is happily married to Rosy (Mita), but their only gripe is that they are childless.
Reagan cannot face Marcos as he was responsible for imprisonment on account of his misdeeds. Lucy supports her husband, and at every opportunity, tries to humiliate her sister-in-law, Rosy.
Being childless, Marcos and Rosy decide to take Velber as their own; but Reagan and Lucy are unwilling to accept their decision. Instead, Marcos and his wife face all sorts of humiliation.
In preparation for the silver wedding anniversary, Reagan and Lucy make big plans to celebrate with invitations to all, except Marcos and Rosy. With the sole intention of bringing in reconciliation, Fatimo invites Marcos and Rosy for the great day.
Marcos and his wife are excited and never expected such a gesture. At the celebration, who is greeted and who is insulted is worth the watch on stage.
Will the encounter between the two brothers, at the grand celebration bring in reconciliation? Or will either of them face insults? What is the outcome of such an encounter?
BEHIND THE SCENES
Eleuterio and Crostina play the role of guardians with zeal, while Normandez and Mita are equally good as the childless couple. Franky enacts well his role as the spoilt brat. Benny de Aldona has played a convincing role as a priest.
For some laughter in between the acts, Mingueline (comedian Joyel) joins hands with Fatimo (David) and Caetan (Flavia) and they entertain.
For the listening pleasure of the audience, comedian Joyel and David step in for the opening song, followed by solos from Tony de Ribandar, David, Benny de Aldona, Normandez and Franky.
A solo by Franky is thought-provoking. Two solos by teenager Daniel are equally good. Queter and his musical team – Filina (saxophone), Mikeias (keyboard), Casmiro (bass), Aniceto (drums) have provided good live music offstage.
The stage sets have been done by Anthony de Ambaji, while Ratna has handled the lights effectively.
