Comedian Ambe’s monsoon tiatr, Duplicate, throws light on the duplication of things in this materialistic world. He focuses on varied things which are duplicated practically every day.
However, the concluding scene of the tiatr reveals one particular thing in this world which can never get duplicated. Find out what it is.
The story revolves around Moses (Moses), who is a seasoned politician, his spouse Roma (Roma), and their only daughter Kimberly (Antonette de Maina), who returns from Germany.
ABOUT THE TIATR
Moses serves as an MLA for the fourth consecutive term, and he is happy in the political field. Kimberley’s mother coaxes her daughter to stay back, instead of returning to Germany.
Noting how corrupt the politicians are, Kimberley prefers to go back. But, a second thought prompts her to stay and contest the next elections – against her father!
Kimberley decides to fight the forthcoming elections and win by a big margin. Election day arrives, and it is a tough fight between father and daughter.
Kimberley wins the elections by a narrow margin. Being in the field of politics for quite some time, Moses seeks re-counting. After the re-counting of votes, Moses defeats his daughter.
Unable to accept defeat, Kimberley turns insane. What’s next is worth watching on stage.
In the tiatr, Duplicate, there was a lot of scope for the entire plot to develop further and reach a climax. Unfortunately, it revolves merely around one family, the politician and his voters.
BEHIND THE TIATR
There are good performances from all the artistes on stage. Moses and Roma stand out as husband and wife, while Antonette de Maina extends good support as the daughter.
Peter de Colva, Sonia Mandrekar and Priscila make brief entries, but they do justice to their respective roles.
In the category of comedy, comedian Ambe takes along with him Richard, Myron, Samica and Sally, and they carry a good dose of laughter pills. Check them out in comical shoes.
In the section of renditions, there’s Jr Reagan stepping in for the opening song, followed by several solos from Xavier Gomes, Rioma, Lester, Lawry Travasso, Maythan and Marcus Vaz. There are more songs rendered by Antonette de Maina and Roma; Richard, Jr Reagan and Myron; Jr Reagan and Lester; Rioma and Lester.
The concluding song by noted singers Marcus Vaz, Xavier Gomes and Lawry Travasso receives an encore from the audience.
Nolvert Cota (trumpet) and his musical team, consisting of Nazareth (saxophone), Norman (keyboard), Siban (bass) and Jack (drums), have provided good live music. Norman also assists with the background music.
The stage sets have been done by Anthony de Ambaji, while Dinesh assists with the light effects.
