Noted author Gurcharan Das will discuss his memoir, Another Sort of Freedom, at the International Centre Goa (ICG), Dona Paula, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 5.30 pm.
Renowned psychoanalyst and author, Sudhir Kakar, will be in conversation with Das. The event is free and open to the public.
According to Das, the book is a funny, moving, and honest memoir of one man’s struggle to achieve another sort of freedom.
Das was only 50 when he quit the corporate world as Managing Director of Procter and Gamble Worldwide (Strategic Planning) in search of this freedom.
An established writer, Das is best known for his popular trilogy on classical Indian goals for the ideal life.
India Unbound (2002) was the first volume on artha (‘material well-being’), which narrated the story of India's economic rise from Independence to the global information age.
The second, The Difficulty of Being Good (2008) is on dharma, or 'moral well-being', and is rich with learned thoughts on the epic, Mahabharata, and its moral dilemmas.
The third, Kama: The Riddle of Desire (2018), is on the third goal of desire and recounts a tale of love and vulnerability about self-doubt and betrayal.
Das is a regular newspaper columnist with his writings appearing in English, Hindi, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil and Gujarati.
