Her timeless music continues to be the life of every Goan party and Goa’s singing legend, Lorna Cordeiro, turns 80 today (August 9, 2024), having touched the hearts of not just Goans but also of people all over the world.
In a quick chat with Gomantak Times Digital, on the eve of her birthday, the Nightingale of Goa said, “I will be celebrating my birthday with my family and a few close friends who will be meeting over dinner.”
But there’s something for fans too. This birthday is special for Lorna, not just because she is turning 80 but also because a website has been created in her honour – Love you Tribute for Lorna... the one and only!
The website will allow her legion of fans to post their wishes and photos of her on it. It can be accessed at https://www.tribute.co/lorna-the-one-and-only-77739/?share=copy_message
And fans she has many, for though the musical queen loves to celebrate her birthday at Dhobitalao in Mumbai, the city she has lived in for most of her life, it is in Goa that she has her largest fan following, a crowd that gets groovy when Lorna, dressed to the nines in her long bright gowns, wedges and make-up, walks on the stage.
“When I’m on stage and when I start singing, I love to see my fans dancing. That gives me a lot of joy and happiness. I love to see how excited people get when they see me on the stage and when I wave my hands. I love to sing, and I will sing till I can,” says Lorna whose songs Bebdo, Pisso, Tuzo Mog are a must at every party.
Even today, the tenor in her voice, her soulful, nostalgic and joyful songs draw fans from across the globe to witness her live performances. She loves a good gig, for sure, and recently she performed in the UK for the Goans "out there".
“It was a fantastic gig as usual and the people out there in the UK are really fun loving. Lucky for me, this time, I had the chance to spend some time meeting my fans,” said Lorna, who is a staunch believer of simplicity and advocates that being humble is the best policy, which got her to where she is now.

With her distinctive voice she has captured the hearts of fans from different generations and has inspired many to lead their way into music. “I wish that people should not copy any singers, but must try to sing in their own style.”
But what do you think is Lorna’s favourite music who do you think would be her favourite singers? “I love to listen to music and I prefer to listen to pop music. I love the songs of Tina Turner, Caterina Valente, Whitney Houston and this list goes on and on,” says the Nightingale of Goa.
At 80, Lorma is quite the powerhouse performer and we wish her a very happy birthday.
