New beginnings are special, and many spend years planning their dream wedding, striving to perfect every detail.
But, wouldn’t you agree it’s never the standard marriage advice given in toasts that make an impact, rather it’s those personalised ones filled with anecdotes and tales that take guests on an emotional rollercoaster of chuckles and tears, leaving an impression for years to come?
Bottom line, if your goal is to create a memorable wedding, you need to customise and add a bit of exclusivity to it. And, that’s where Vian Pereira shines. With her cello in hand, she strings beautiful melodies that take guests on a magical journey, making your special day all the more unforgettable.
Goa often comes to mind when considering a destination wedding. Not only does it offer convenience and affordable options, but also provides for the perfect backdrop to take your vows.
“Nowadays, couples who are looking to get married in Goa, even those celebrating anniversaries, are showing an inclination towards solo cello music and string quartets,” notes Vian.
Hailing from a family of musicians, Vian took to the cello at a very young age. In fact, it was her first music teacher who recognised her potential as soon as she started her recorder and cello lessons.
“I, then, moved to France for a few years to further my music education, and returned to India to share my knowledge and expertise through music lessons, organising concerts and workshops,” she says.
As a professional solo cellist, Vian performs at Western classical concerts, weddings and corporate events and also collaborates with other musicians to perform in duos, trios and quartets.
“People are exposed to what the world has to offer and want something that adds a personal touch to their special occasions, which is what my performances strive to bring,” she says.
Vian is the co-founder of Noteward that offers music lessons and curates concerts. She recently founded The Vian Pereira String Quartet, which is gaining popularity in Goa for performances at weddings and corporate events.
Her diverse repertoire includes pieces like The Swan by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, Prélude from Suite I by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ave Maria by Schubert and Bach-Gounod, and popular songs such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Believer by Imagine Dragons, Until I Found You by Stephen Sanchez, A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, as well as Bollywood and Konkani classics by Lorna, Alfred Rose and Chris Perry.
As a soloist, she has performed Western classical orchestra music at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, and The Royal Opera House, Mumbai. Apart from India, she has also performed in South Korea, Russia, New York, Oman and France.
“Performing at The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (Mumbai) and The Serendipity Festival (Goa) have been great platforms to connect with music lovers,” says Vian, adding that she will take to the Serendipity stage once again this December along with her quartet and other artistes.
For those unfamiliar with chamber music, or interested in exploring Vian’s work, her Instagram handle offers a glimpse into her musical journey.
As for her, every piece of music ever written holds a story, and as an artiste she aims to bring forth the composer’s story from her artistic point of view and add her touch of magic.
