“Should this be the last thing I see, I want you to know it’s enough for me,” sang the British singer and song-writer as he strummed the guitar to his song, Tenerife Sea, and several other tunes at the Mahalaxmi Race Course ground in Mumbai, on March 16.
The song, released way back in the year 2014, left the crowd in awe even a decade later in 2024, and that stands as a statement to the magic that happens when you give a man, whose name is Ed Sheeran, a guitar and a mic.
“Ed Sheeran was a rollercoaster of emotions. It was pure, magical, exhilarating and fun. The fact that each show of his tour had the touch where he would loop everything live made it even more interesting,” said Quinston Menezes who made his way to Mumbai from Bangalore just to attend the concert.
“It also was great to watch him share the stage with Indian singers Aarman Malik and Diljit Dosanjh. I would’ve never imagined we’d get to hear Sheeran sing in Punjabi!” he added. Mentally, Quinston is still reliving that night even two days later.
Nikita Nogar from Santa Cruz expressed, "This was my second time attending an Ed Sheeran concert and approximately tenth live concert overall. However, she believes that this particular concert was the best one she has ever experienced.
Being a devoted fan of both Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, Nikita found this concert to be emotionally uplifting and healing.
“His voice is truly something magical, it left me emotional on so many counts, especially when he played my most favourite (and in my opinion severely underrated) song, Tenerife Sea,” she smiled.
Truth be told, Ed Sheeran had our hearts years ago, and like the hopeless romantics that we are – we never let go. Why would we? Ed Sheeran’s music is like a band aid on a fresh wound – he mends hearts that he didn’t break.
“Performing some of his famous songs for his new fans, and older songs for the OG fans, he really understood his audience and was so interactive with the crowd that he even got us singing along with him,” added Nogar.
She also shared how English singer, Calum Scott, who also performed at the concert, sang his hit song, You are the reason, that had the crowd singing and chanting his name in unison.
“Calum got really emotional and even ended the song by saying ‘Mumbai, you are my reason’, that moment left everyone with goose bumps on their skin,” Nikita shared.
As for Elvis Pinto from Taleigao, watching Ed perform live was something that had made its way to his wish list a long time ago. “Crossing off attending an Ed Sheeran concert from my bucket list was surreal. It was more than just a concert; it was a magical journey,” he said.
“There’s something inherently genuine about Sheeran’s music that resonates with me. His talent as a songwriter is unparalleled and his versatility as a musician adds another layer to one’s appreciation. I’m honoured to have had it as my first live music experience,” said a truly content Elvis.
“Ed is someone who I look up to as a musician, performer and songwriter. And man, it was crazy to witness him live!” gushed 21-year-old Keane Cotta, a budding Goan musician.
“I learnt so many things from those two-and-half hours that he performed and took back memories, feelings and a stronger determination to work harder in hope that maybe one day I will have people listen to my music the way they do his,” he added. Keane has recently released his debut single, By Your Side.
While most Goans lived the concert through the many social media posts and stories that went viral, among a thousand others, Quinston, Nikita, Elvis and Keane were of the opinion that, just like the lyrics of Tenerife Sea – should this be the last thing they see, it would be more than enough for them!
