VALPOI: Villagers from Pisssurlem strongly objected on lifting of iron ore which was auctioned from their village by mining companies.
Villagers complained that their major demands are unsolved and they have serious grievances related to farming activities. According to the delegation led by Hanumant Parab, affected villagers should get compensation for the loss of crops as it is due from 2017 onwards. “We need mining pit water to be released into paddy fields and agriculture land as well as for cattle so that villagers can start dairy farming in the villages”, said Parab.
He further said that mining silt from the paddy fields to be removed as it is affecting farming activity. “Our village is totally destroyed by the mining companies”, reads the memorandum submitted to deputy collector, Sattari. It further states that villagers will stop the handling of auction ore if grievances are not resolved on top priority basis.
Meanwhile, deputy collector assured villagers that a joint meeting will be convened of villagers and mining owners.
