PANAJI: Stating that files going missing from government department is an issue of concern, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that inquiry should be conducted into the same. Intervening into the discussion between Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant 'Babu' Kavlekar and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Sawant said, "If the files have gone missing, it is a concern. File cannot go missing. May it be any department, there has to be an inquiry. The department has to check the inward and outward of the file and conduct an inquiry. This is needed. The officers also need to be held accountable." Speaking during zero hour, Sardesai said, "There is fear and anxiety in the minds of people of Fatorda and Goa with regard to the files from the department of agriculture pertaining to Community Farming Scheme for farmers clusters in Fatorda and Navelim going missing from the Department and the failure of the government to take any action in this regard against the persons, neither trace the files nor recreate them."
Stating that Goa has 13,408 hectares of fallow land, Sardesai said, "If the government wants to bring this land under cultivation, there is no other option than community farming because there are fragmented holdings. If this problem has to be solved, the scheme of community farming which we had started, has to be continued." "Two files - one pertaining to Fatorda and other to Navelim constituency have gone missing. On your directions only I feel the file has gone missing," he said. Responding, Kavlekar said, "It is true that files of The Majorda Shetkari Sanstha and Vegetable Farmers Association, Fatorda went missing after the Minister changed. We took up the work of recreating the files. We have recreated the file pertaining to Majorda. The 41 farmers of Fatorda are not ready to give self declaration. We are ready to recreate the file."
