THE JOURNEY

Bar de Goa was founded on November 16, 2020, which also happens to be the wedding anniversary of Marcia and Gilbert.

This day has a significant meaning for Marcia and Gilbert, as it has now turned into a day of double celebration at Bar de Goa.

The bar's name was derived from the experiences of Gilbert and Marcia while traveling overseas. They observed that bars frequently adopt names that reflect their country of origin. They decided to call it Bar de Goa because Goa is their hometown.

The couple has effectively portrayed the true spirit of Goan culture at Bar de Goa, establishing a warm and welcoming ambiance.

The meticulousness is clearly shown, including in the selection of the bar's name on the azulejos, commonly seen in Goan-Portuguese homes.

The interior of the bar is carefully designed, with the colours reminiscent of the nearby Calangute beach.

One of the highlights of the bar is the display of garrafaos -- traditional large bottles used for storing alcohol -- alongside other options on the menu.

Additionally, there are two original caricature paintings, exclusively created for the bar. One depicts Bar de Goa near the beach, with people enjoying drinks, dancing and having a good time.

The other painting showcases the process of making Goan alcohol, specifically cashew feni, and people enjoying it at Bar de Goa.

The bar also pays homage to the history of transportation in Goa with the inclusion of a Paulo camiao, or caminhao, which was a popular mode of transport in the past. This service was initiated by Paulo, Marcia's great grandfather.

When it comes to selecting alcoholic beverages at Bar de Goa, one can also choose urrak and feni which are typically enjoyed in the summer. Gilbert and Marcia particularly enjoy urrak, especially when it is available during summer.

However, when not enjoying the local drinks, Marcia prefers Baileys or gin, while Gilbert opts for whiskey.

Also, when it comes to going to Bar de Goa, people may think it is mostly visited by young individuals. Nonetheless, the couple clarified this misunderstanding by expressing that age is just a number and the place welcomes not only young diners, but also families with children.
