The Mhadei river enters Goa via Krishnapur. Over thousands of years, the flow of water from the hills and forests has carved and chiseled natural wonders along the way.

And one such place where nature's wonders are seen is Mhovacho Guno in Sonal village of Sattari.

WHAT IT MEANS

Mhov means 'honey' in Konkani. At a small hillock in Mhovacho Guno, there is a dense forest, which is home to myriads of bee hives. Any disturbance to these hives could easily result in attacks by swarms of bees.

HISTORICAL CONNECT

Dipaji Rane, a freedom fighter who fought against the Portuguese regime, often hid in this area during the colonial rule in Goa.

UNIQUE VEGETATION

The riparian vegetation in this area is rich in species which have medicinal value. Species such as Terminalia Arjuna (Arjun tree) is found in abundance along the river banks.

TOURIST ATTRACTION

Hundreds of locals come to this location to enjoy the serene beauty of the river and see the naturally polished pebble stones. Unfortunately, many of them leave their garbage footprints behind.

Unsuspecting swimmers have lost their lives in the natural whirlpool, which is located close to Mhovacho Guno.
