When this Goan village drowned in the colours of 'Intruz'

There is still time for Holi, but this village of Dongrim in Mandur, Goa, celebrates a unique festival called 'Intruz' where splashing 'gulaal' is part of the celebration.

FROM HISTORY

According to historical narrative, the Hindus of the village started celebrating Shigmo in the garb of Intruz, which is observed a month before Shigmo.

IN TUNE WITH TRADITION

As per tradition, people from five mandaps of Dongrim offer gulaal at a peepal tree after which they go around the sacred umbrellas (chatris) and throw the gulaal onto them.

COLOUR CODED

The people then go around greeting and meeting people and apply gulaal on each other.

TO THE BEATS

The villagers of Dongrim are known for their music and you can find the traditional musicians playing instruments like dhol, taaso, ghumot, etc. with full fervour on the occasion.

CELEBRATION UNLIMITED

Regardless of age, everyone participates in the gulaal festivities, which commence at around 9 am and continue till afternoon.
