On this World Tourism Day, let's explore an exciting upcoming attraction in Goa, Moda Goa, India's first costume museum, which is all set to open its doors next year.
Housed in a 450-year-old home, it will showcase costumes, textiles, accessories like shoes, hats, armour, jewellery, cigar holders, statues and photographs.
The museum will have 18 galleries depicting Goan Hindu Gods, International Influence, Portuguese Beginnings, Christian Art Gallery, Festivals of Goa and Memories of Goa projecting a slice of history.
A special gallery called Pano Bhaju Migration will showcase Pano Bhaju garment, which was worn by high-class ladies in South Goa while performing the traditional Goan Mando, a musical form that evolved in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The museum also features this grand church altar (circa 1750) of the Mandrem Church which was brought by Rodricks when it was being renovated.
The Visual Gallery of textiles pays homage to a 6000-year-old legacy of Indian textiles. An embroidered cloak of a tissue silk wedding dress from Karachi from 1913 is part of the collection.
