Goa police will take a written undertaking or declaration from tourists stating that they would follow all traffic rules while driving round the State.

INEVITABLE MOVE

This move comes in response to an increasing number of road accidents involving vehicles, both cars and bikes, rented by tourists.

DATA SHOWS

According to the traffic police, data collected by them has shown that rented cars and bikes are twice as likely to meet with accidents on Goan roads.

PLEASE BEHAVE

The traffic police officers have been instructed to brief individuals renting vehicles regarding the necessity of signing a written undertaking.

RIDE SAFE

The primary objective of this initiative is to educate tourists about the regulations, consequences, and monetary penalties associated with traffic violations.

DRIVE SAFE

Individuals who rent vehicles in Goa will be required to keep a copy of the undertaking with them, while the other copy must be kept by the rental company or agency.

UNFORTUNATE

Recently, in Panjim, a tourist vehicle was responsible for causing an accident on the Mandovi bridge in which a two-wheeler rider was flung into the river leading to his death.

TOURISTS' CHOICE

Goa has emerged as a popular choice among tourists who prefer to rent vehicles and explore the less congested roads of the State, leading to a rise in road accidents.

UNRULY

In addition to causing accidents, tourists have also been apprehended for riding and operating their vehicles on beaches, which goes against the rules.
