The Tivim Fort, also known as the Colvale Fort, is a small fort located in the village of Tivim, in North Goa.
Built in the year 1635 by the Portuguese, the fort stretches from Tivim to Colvale.
It is located approx 22 km from Goa's capital city of Panjim, and roughly 15 km from Goa's new Manohar International Airport, in Mopa.
Interestingly, although the fort was built by the Portuguese, it also showcases Indian architectural elements since it was captured by the Marathas in 1739.
The fort was named Fortaleza de São Sebastião by the Portuguese, and is sometimes also known as Forte de Sao Miguel de Tivim.
The fort is a must-visit, especially if you're visiting Goa for its historic structures.
Even though the Colvale Fort is in ruins, it is a protected site under the Goa, Daman and Diu Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1978.
