Earth Day is observed on April 22 every year, and highlights the importance of environmental protection and sustainability.

GREEN THOUGHTS

This Earth Day, let's take some time out from our busy schedules to appreciate some of the beautiful, green, serene spaces found in Goa.

1. SELAULIM DAM

Selaulim Dam and its scenic, lush green, surroundings draw hundreds of nature enthusiasts and curious tourists each year. The glistening waters of the reservoir, along with its unique duckbill spillway, offer some breathtaking views.

2. COTIGAO WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Located in Canacona taluka, this sanctuary is characterised by dense, forests. A noteworthy feature here is the presence of towering trees that create a verdant overhead canopy. The famous Kuskem waterfall can also be found in this wildlife sanctuary.

3. BHAGWAN MAHAVEER SANCTUARY & MOLLEM NATIONAL PARK

The Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park can be found on Goa's eastern border. The sanctuary is home to indigenous wildlife, such as the Indian bison (gaur), Indian leopard and sloth bear, among others. The centuries-old Tambdi Surla Temple, located here, is also a must-visit.

4. SALIM ALI BIRD SANCTUARY

The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, on the picturesque island of Chorao, is a haven for birdwatchers. The entire sanctuary is a mangrove forest, wherein all kinds of bird species can be spotted at any given time of year.

5. ECO FARMS

An eco farm is a wonderful place to experience a range of eco-friendly practices such as agroforestry, composting, water conservation and more. A trip to Goa would be incomplete without visiting one of the many eco farms in the state's hinterlands.
