These hidden caves in Bicholim tell a story

WHAT'S IN A CAVE

A cave is just a cave, right? Not if it's a cave such as Goa's Lamgao Caves. Situated in the Bicholim taluka of North Goa, these little known caves also have a historical significance.

TALKING ABOUT DISTANCES

If you want to see these caves, head to the village of Lamgao, in Bicholim, which is 28 km from Goa's capital city of Panjim, and a similar distance of 28 km from Mopa Airport, too.

AN ANCIENT ERA

Dating back to the 6th or 7th century AD (CE), these rock-cut caves are believed to have been created during the reign of the Bhoja dynasty in Goa.

TEMPLE IN A CAVE

Take a walk in the area and you will discover that one of these ancient caves houses the Shree Rudreshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.

FASCINATING DETAILS

It is fascinating to note that these caves, made of basalt rock, feature interesting architectural details and carvings as well as multiple chambers to check out, all of which will take you back in time.

GETTING THERE

The caves are easily accessible from the main road, while signboards posted at regular intervals will guide you to the venue. Although this is a popular tourist location, note that entry is free.

EASE OF TRAVEL

While the caves are ancient, the path leading to it is not! Bordered by lush vegetation, it is well-paved, making your trip to the destination a fairly comfortable one.
