Take a walking tour of Campal in Panjim

STEP OUT

Start off at the Military hospital and walk down the tree-lined area of Campal’s heritage houses.

STANDING TALL

You’ll soon find yourself facing the statue of Francisco Luis Gomes, a Goan intellectual and parliamentarian, erected in 1929 to celebrate his birth centenary. 

OF HERITAGE VALUE

Just behind the statue is a stunning 100-year old Portuguese villa, renovated into the Surya Kiran Heritage Hotel.

TIMELESS

Continue down the main path till you see the tall arched windows of Maquinez Palace. In 1842, it housed Asia’s oldest medical institution, the Escola Medico Cirurgica De Nova Goa.

STREET MASTERPIECE

Across the road from Maquinez Palace, facing the riverfront, is a metal art installation by artist Pradip Naik entitled A Cock in the Bag.

ROOT POWER

Enjoy a brief glimpse of Goa’s famous mangroves with some nesting waterfowl, to your right.

WANDER INTO WISDOM

Wander around the Bhagwan Mahaveer Bal Vihar Park which also contains a beautiful statue of him sitting in lotus pose.

WALK PAST HISTORY

Directly opposite the Francisco Luis Gomes statue, facing the river, is the Cannon de Banastarim, produced in the arsenal at Old Goa. 

CULTURE CONNECT

Continue walking down the green sidewalk lining Dayanand Bandodkar Marg. Soon you’ll reach Kala Academy, built in the 70s on the banks of the Mandovi river by the famous architect of Goan descent, Charles Correa, and finish where you started off.
