South Goa disapproves of Sunburn Festival

Citizens gathered outside South Goa District Collectorate in Margao to protest against Sunburn Festival on Saturday, July 20.

SAY NO TO NOISE & DRUGS

Those protesting bitterly complained about the proliferation of drugs at the Sunburn party in North Goa and said they do not want the scourge in South Goa.

HEALTH BEFORE HIGH

Some of those protesting said the festival allegedly promotes drug use and disrupts the tranquility and health of its elderly citizens.

DRUGS CHARGES DENIED

However, the organisers of the event have denied promoting drug use at the event.

Some of the political leaders at the protest rally said they will raise the issue in the Goa Assembly.

COURTING CONTROVERSY

In 2023, Sunburn courted controversy over not obtaining permission from the local Comunidade to host the festival on the first day. It was accused of not paying dues owed to the local body.

The debate surrounding Sunburn rages on every year with the Goa government grappling with balancing tourism revenue generation and addressing public concerns.
