HOLY MONTH

Even as the rains nourish the earth, Shravan, the fifth month of the Hindu calendar, evokes devotion and spirituality and deepens our connection to the divine.

SHRAVAN SOMAAR (MONDAY)

Many Hindus fast during this month, especially on Mondays, which are dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. Shravan is celebrated by all Shiva temples across Goa.

SHRI NAGUESH MAHARUDRA TEMPLE

Located in Ponda, the abode of Shri Naguesh Maharudra, a form of Lord Shiva, celebrates Somaar (every Monday) during the Shravan month. Every Monday, this divine abode becomes a pilgrimage for devotees from across Goa.

RITUAL CLEANSING 

The day commences with abhishek at 8.30 am - a ceremonial ritual that involves bathing the Shiva Linga - that goes on until 7.30 pm, followed by aarti at 8 pm.

ANNA SANTARPANA

Post-aarti and offering of naivedya - a food offering to the deity - delicious and flavourful meals are served to a large number of visitors hosted by the temple on Mondays.

BHAJAN KIRTAN

The tunes and melodies of devotional songs echo within the sacred walls of the temple sung by devout worshippers.

PALANQUIN PROCESSION

After the prayers, the idol of Shri Naguesh Maharudra is placed in a palanquin and carried around the temple premises by the devotees.

SACRED OFFERING

Following the procession, prasad (consisting of fruits and sweets) is distributed among the attendees.

MAHA SAPTAH

A week-long spiritual odyssey awaits devotees as the temple embarks on the Maha Saptah from the 20th to the 27th. During these sacred seven days, the temple will be open 24/7 for the devotees.
