UNFORTUNATE
The recent accident on Panjim's Mandovi bridge involving a two-wheeler rider (who fell to his death in the river) and a rented car has brought to the fore drunken driving by tourists.

IN FOCUS
The accident has also brought into focus the easy availability of rent-a-cab vehicles to tourists, who fail to to obey traffic rules and many a time have been caught doing stunts on them.

TRAGIC
Earlier this month, a rent-a-cab vehicle was involved in an accident at Arambol in North Goa leading to the tragic deaths of two cousin brothers who came under a truck.

CURB THAT SPEED
Taking note of the fatalities and nuisance caused by these rent-a-cabs, the Goa government has asked transport officials to direct the owners of such vehicles to install speed governors.

FAILED ATTEMPT
The Mandovi bridge accident could have been averted if there were dividers in between. The earlier attempt of PWD to divide the road by installing traffic cones did not work.

TIME FOR REMEDY
The Mandovi bridge accident could have been averted if the PWD had taken some firm measures to install road dividers after its attempt with traffic cones failed.
