Places for avian photography and birdwatching in Goa

CARAMBOLIM LAKE

This lake, near Old Goa, is considered to be biodiverse in nature and a very important wetland in Goa. The biodiverse richness of the lake attracts several migratory and endemic birds.

DR SALIM ALI BIRD SANCTUARY

This sanctuary in Chorao, which is close to Panjim, is a birdwatchers' paradise where amateur photographers can spread their wings and get some of the best shots of the avian visitors.

MAINA-CURTORIM WETLANDS

Maina-Curtorim wetlands, in South Goa, is a place for serious birders and photographers to identify and capture different avian species seen in Goa.

DIVAR ISLAND

Take flight on the traffic-free roads of Divar, which is just a stone's throw from Panjim, and gaze around across the fields; you are sure to spot different species of birds.

BONDLA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Bondla has some of the endemic forest birds in Goa. The sanctuary, which is at a distance of 45 km from Panjim, is home to birds like flame-throated bulbul, Malabar trogon and crimson-backed sunbird. It hosted the Bird Festival of Goa in 2023.

BATIM LAKE

This picturesque lake, half an hour away from Panjim, attracts a variety of birds, and is known for its sightings of lesser whistling ducks.

COTIGAO WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Located in the Canacona taluka of South Goa, this place allows you to explore lesser-known avian species.
