Goa has sounds of its own, which can be heard in the rhythm of its life. If you listen up, you cannot miss them, they waft through your windows, open fields, the ocean and dense forests.

THE MORNING ALARM

If you’re in a part of Goa, which has retained its old charm, your day breaks with the persistent sound of a rooster crowing in the distance.

PODER – THE BAKER’S MAN

Another sound that pierces through the Goan dawn, while you may still be lingering in your sleep, is that of a poder’s or a Padeiro’s horn. You’ll hear the musical horn of the baker’s man through the day.  

CHIMING CHURCH BELL

If you’re close to a church, you would be greeted with the faraway sound of church bells, travelling through the morning mist to reach you.

And, if you’re in the vicinity of a temple, you’ll be wrapped in the rhythmic jingling and thumping sounds of aartis and devotional bhajans.  

SYMPHONY OF THE SEA

If you’re near the sea, the sound of crashing waves – sometimes gentle, sometimes ferocious, and at other times playful – will constantly stir your spirit.

You’ll find many places in Goa with loud silence. In the depth of this silence, you will hear thoughts that were pushed in some corner of your consciousness.

BIRD BANTER

Almost everywhere – on the beach, on the hills and in the forests – you’ll be serenaded by your feathery companions with every genre of bird melodies.  

CASCADING CHORUS

Go hiking in the forests of the Western Ghats or on a waterfall trail, and you’ll hear haunting songs of nature – tunes of which will keep playing in your mind long after you’ve left the place.
