If there’s one thing that’s synonymous with the rainy season in Goa, it is the unmistakable sound of frogs which rents the air, especially after sunset. Here are some species found in Goa.

MALABAR GLIDING FROG

The Malabar gliding frog (Rhacophorus malabaricus) is found in the Western Ghats, especially in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.

The Indian Bullfrog (Hoplobatrachus tigerinus) is listed under the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List of threatened species.

MALABAR TREE TOAD

Malabar tree toad (Pedostibes tuberculosus) is a small species and is found in wet tree hollows or leaf bases containing water.

FUNGOID FROG

When adult males of fungoid frog (Hydrophylax bahuvistara) get together during the breeding season, their loud singing chorus can be heard a kilometre away.
