National Games: How host Goa scores so far

THE BIG PICTURE

With 12 days behind us, and just a couple of days to go before the 37^th National Games in Goa draw to a close, here’s a look at the medal tally of the host state so far.

SCOREBOARD

By the end of day 12, team Goa had 50 medals in its kitty – 12 gold, 12 silver and 26 bronze.

NUMERO UNO

Currently, Maharashtra tops the medal tally with 199 medals, while Goa ranks at number 12 with 50 medals.

HEAVY METAL

Goa bagged the maximum number of medals for Pencak Silat, sweeping all three metals – 1 gold, 1 silver and 14 bronze – a total of 16 medals.

GOLD RUSH

Gold medals came to Goa in the following games: Taekwondo (2), Squash (1), Yogasana (1), Sepak Takraw (6), Pencak Silat (1) and Modern Pentathlon (1).

SILVER LINING

The events which gave Goa silver were – Weightlifting (1), Taekwondo (1), Wushu (2), Netball (1), Sepak Takraw (1), Pencak Silat (1), Modern Pentathlon (1) and Aquatics (3).

BRONZE AGE

Goa picked up bronze in Wushu (1), Sepak Takraw (1), Pencak Silat (14), Athletics (1), Aquatics (3) and Modern Pentathlon (6).

SHINING STARS

Babu Gaonkar, Kareena Shirodkar, Sanmay Bandekar, Shrungi Bandekar and Sanjana Prabhugaokar were some of the sportspersons who displayed stellar performances for team Goa.
