Margao lights up in pre-Diwali 'Naraka Chaturdashi' celebrations

In Goa, on the day of Naraka Chaturdashi, gigantic effigies of the demon, Naraksura, are created, and then burnt to symbolise the victory of good over evil, celebrated as Diwali.

Youth groups from all over Goa gathered to showcase their artwork, put on impressive performances, and compete for prizes at Margao's SGPDA Ground.

NARKASURA VADH

The scene of Narakasura Vadh (the death of Narakasura) was recreated with one performer, dressed as Lord Krishna, launching an arrow at the demon.

The performances were accompanied by the melodies of local instruments, echoing throughout Margao.
