FIELD DAY

With a landscape made up of paddy fields, creeks and more, Tivim is the biggest village in Bardez taluka, and was important from the agricultural point of view.

ST MIGUEL FORT

St Miguel fort, commonly known as Colvale fort, was strategically built by the Portuguese in 1635 to protect the areas of Bardez, bordered by Pernem and Bicholim.

MORE FORTS

Kerkar informs that the fort of Nossa Senhora da Assumption and the fort of Nossa Senhora da Livramento were built in 1681 and 1713, respectively. A part of the wall covering a distance of 4.5 km still exists.

RIVER LINK

One can also see – what is probably the first river-linking project during Portuguese rule – linking Colvale river with Mapusa river (a tributary of the River Mandovi).

SACRED TREES

Throughout the walk, various sacred trees, such as this false Arjun tree (Sterculia urens), can be seen.

This spring, near the village temple, has long been worshipped by some of the locals.
