Goa has launched the child-friendly tourism code (CFTC) which is an effort of Children’s Rights in Goa (CRG) in collaboration with the Goa Tourism Department.

CODE WITH A PURPOSE
CFTC was drafted by CRG and adopted by the Goa Tourism Department in 2020.

FOR CHILDREN
The code has been drafted in tune with the provisions of the Goa Children’s Act, 2003, which was passed to safeguard the rights of children.

KIDS FIRST, ALWAYS
The CFTC too has been drafted in a manner so as to ensure that tourism is conducted responsibly and that children are not adversely affected by the activity.

MESSAGE IS CLEAR
The CRG has been running a campaign to sensitise shack owners and other tourism industry stakeholders about laws, child protection and child-friendly measures to be be adopted while dealing with children.

A CHILD MATTERS
The code deals with measures to prevent prostitution, sex tourism, child beggary, child labour and all forms of sexual exploitation to safeguard the children.

SPREADING THE WORD
As per one of the guidelines of the code, hotels and guest houses have to ensure that the tourists do not leave their children unsupervised and locked in their rooms.

KEEP THEM SAFE
The code makes it mandatory for all stakeholders in the tourism industry to sign the CFTC de and obey the guidelines.
