Know about this unique project with private buses in Goa

FIRST OF ITS KIND
In a first of its kind in India, the Goa government has started a pilot project wherein private buses will run under the management of state-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL).

MHAJI BUS SCHEME
The pilot project is basically to formulate and finalise the Mhaji Bus scheme that will strengthen the fleet of KTCL buses.

TESTING THE WATER
Under this project, KTCL will see the pros and cons of the scheme for the next 6 months and then bring these to the table for further discussion.

AN EXPERIMENT
As per the experiment, KTCL will have its conductors on the private buses to collect money and issue tickets.

THE ECONOMICS
The government is paying the private operators Rs 38 per kilometre to run their buses.

MAKING A BETTER WAY
So far, around 60 buses have registered under this pilot project and 25 have started operations.

CLEAR CONTRACT
According to KTCL, if any of the bus fails to service a particular route under the contract, then it will be penalised or even thrown out.
