UPCYCLED CHIC

Kaapus Tree, a brand founded by Vinaya Palekar, focuses on making fabric toys, wall décor, crib mobiles, play mats and more, all from natural and upcycled materials. The name Kaapus is derived from the Konkani word for 'cotton'.

CAREER SHIFT

Vinaya transitioned from an 8-year career in advertising in Mumbai to pursuing her childhood passion for doodling and working with fabric in Goa.

CHILDHOOD INSPIRATION

Growing up, Vinaya was inspired by her mother, who stitched most of the clothes for them and even for her dolls. This early exposure to sewing and creativity laid the foundation for her future endeavours.

ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS

Upon learning about the environmental impact of textile waste, Vinaya decided to create products using surplus fabric that would otherwise end up in landfills.

REDUCE WASTE

Not only does upcycling reduce waste, but it also minimises the carbon footprint of her products. And, she puts scrap to good use knowing well that some fabrics take over 200 years to disintegrate.

DOUBLE DUTY RAKHIS

Since last year, Vinaya and a friend have been working on reusable rakhis which can also be worn as brooches.

Featuring cute designs such as animals, the moon and sun, which appeal to children, these rakhis are priced between Rs 99 to Rs 199

From fabric toys to wall décor to play mats, everything at Kaapus Tree is made using natural and upcycled material, and is priced in the range of Rs 700 -- Rs 2,500.
