The River Chapora flows by this colossal fort, located in the scenic village of Alorna, in the Pernem taluka of North Goa.

ANCIENT DYNASTY

One of the oldest forts in Goa, it was built in the 17th century by the Bhonsles of Sawantwadi in order to guard their territories viz. Pernem, Maneri and Bicholim.

HOW FAR?

While the fort is located 25 km from the bustling city of Mapusa, it stands 12 km from Manohar International Airport, Mopa.

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Considering that the fort is situated on the banks of the Chapora river, there are some very scenic views of the environs to be had from here, and that includes lush green fields and plantations.

PROTECTED SPACE

Also known as Halarn fort or Fort Santa Cruz de Alorna, it is a protected Monument under The Goa Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1978 and Rules, 1980.
