Goa's Velim village celebrates Sao Joao in style

LIVING THE LEGACY

In an enchanting celebration of culture, cuisine and music, the St Francis Xavier's Parish in Velim celebrated Sao Joao 2024. The festival was organised by the Parish Youth along with the Parish Pastoral Council. Here's a recap on all that went down at the festival.

WREATHED WELL

In a delightful ceremony that set off the evening celebrations at Velim, Youth Animator Fr Warren blessed a beautifully adorned well, that's symbolic to the festival of Sao Joao.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT

Adorned with kopels, surrounded by the thrum of tradition and the rhythmic tunes of a nine-piece brass band, the jubilant procession headed to the event square.

DANCING TO GOAN BEATS

Enthralling everyone present, the evening unfolded with mesmerising Goan cultural performances, spirited dances, soul-stirring Konkani songs, and an array of games and competitions.

SERVED WITH LOVE

The air was filled with the tantalising aroma of traditional delicacies such as patoleo, holle, sanna and other exotic treats, delighting the taste buds of all the attendees.

ALL SMILES

Posing with their fruit baskets, locals regardless of age, could be seen partaking in the fancy dress, kopel and vojem competitions, showcasing creativity and enthusiasm at its best.

LOST IN RHYTHM

Making sure the Sao Joao spirit remained high throughout the evening, DJ Doel set the tone and got everyone grooving to his electrifying beats.
