One of the most fascinating and interesting Ganesh visarjans in Goa takes place in the Cumbarjua canal, where both mythological heroes and villains come to life in a display of divinity and spirituality on sangodds (boats tied together).
The festive mood was interrupted when the main sangodd carrying the idol of Lord Ganesha capsized in the Cumbarjua canal. However, all were rescued and the visarjan continued with renewed vigour.
As part of sangodd, visitors who stood on the banks of the Cumbarjua canal, got to witness creatively designed floats drawing them into moments of wonder and reverence.
Both young and old, who had their bodies painted in tune with different themes, radiated a deep sense of tradition and artistic expression.
After circling the water seven times in the canal, villagers bid farewell to Lord Ganesha after venerating him for seven days in their village and homes.
