The Rotary Rain Run, which flagged off from the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) Athletics Stadium in Bambolim, on Sunday, July 28, 2024, witnessed over 2,000 participants, both amateur and professional.
It also saw the participation of more than twenty five para-athletes from Goa and Karnataka.
This year, a new category — Seniority Walk — was introduced, and received a positive response.
The run aimed to focus on health while also supporting a cause. Proceeds from the Rotary Rain Run 2024 will be donated to the Prakash Cancer Aid Project, which provides free cancer detection services for women and promotes women's health and education.
Ankit Kumar Yadav of the Indian Navy and Deepika Prakash, a banker from Bengaluru, won the male and female categories, respectively, in the prestigious 21 km open event.
Prem Thakur and Ryohei Takahashi (Japan) were the top two finishers in the men’s 21 km timed run, while Galina Kuzmina (Russia) and Hansine Benoit (France) claimed the top spots in the women's event in the same category.
Hundreds of amateur runners, including children, participated in the event’s non-timed categories.
The marathon, which was organised by the Rotary Club of Porvorim, was supported by volunteers from the Indian Army and Indian Navy, with the latter also providing assistance to participants throughout the event.
