TREASURE TREE

One of the most valuable trees at Edricia Farm, in Siolim, is a soap nut tree, which is over 40 years old. Few people are aware that soap nuts are a natural alternative to laundry, household cleaning and bathing.

CHEMICAL FREE

In ancient times, soap nuts were commonly used in India. Nowadays, there is a gradual return of their usage due to chemical-free properties.

STORE & USE

The tree flowers during summer, and during the winter months, soap nuts are gathered, dried and stored for year-round use.

RE-USE, RE-CYCLE

The desiccated soap nuts are suitable for both household as well as commercial laundry use. When used for handwashing purposes, they can be used and re-used roughly seven times before discarding.

LATHER UP

Before using the soap nuts to wash your hands, it is important to soak them in hot water so that they create the necessary lather.

MANY USES

Apart from household cleaning and laundry applications, shampoo and bath soap can also be produced using this versatile, little ingredient.

NEED TO KNOW

Soap nuts which are completely dehydrated can be used as soap, while liquid soap needs to be stored in the refrigerator to increase its shelf life.
