Maundy Thursday was observed on April 6, 2023, with services being held in churches and chapels across Goa.
On Maundy Thursday (Nimanno Brestar in Konkani), the ‘Last Supper’ of Jesus Christ was enacted in the church.
During this service, the priest washed the feet of 12 people, just as Jesus Christ washed the feet of the 12 apostles.
The 12 people are generally parishioners from the city or village, where the service is held.
After their feet were washed, each of them was given a hot cross bun.
This service is generally held outdoors, such as this one at Mary Immaculate Church, in Panjim.
Being one of the most important days in the Catholic liturgical year, the Maundy Thursday service was attended by many devotees.
This service is held in the evenings, while the church altar is devoid of any decorations.
