Celebrating International Bakers' Day with Goa's traditional bakers

BREAKING BREAD

The All Goa Association of Bakers (AGAB) celebrated International Bakers' Day on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

TRADITIONAL PROCESSION

The annual event was celebrated at St Sebastian Church, Aquem, and began with a traditional procession.

GIVING THANKS

The celebratory thanksgiving mass was held at 10 am, and was preceded by a short prayer. General secretary of the All Goa Association of Bakers (AGAB), Bond Braganza, was also present on the occasion.

TOOLS OF THE TRADE

During the service, Fr Andre Dionisio Pereira blessed a variety of local breads, which had been prepared by local bakers, as well as equipment used by them in their profession.

HOME DELIVERY (SANS SWIGGY & ZOMATO)

The mass was attended by members of the bakers' fraternity from across the state. Goa's many local breads are delivered piping hot and fresh from traditional bakeries to all villages, and even cities in Goa, by poders on cycles.

DAILY BREAD

A selection of some of Goa's popular traditional breads, such as pao, poee, katre etc were displayed on the occasion. These simple, yet delicious, staples taste best with Goan cuisine.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT

After the eucharistic celebration, a small get-together was held for the gathering in the church hall.
