KNOT REALLY

From the religious ceremony to the reception, Goan Catholic weddings are a delightful mix of traditional and modern details. Here are the basic elements …

ATTIRE

A custom-made wedding gown by a local tailor or designer is, by far, the most preferred option for Goan brides, although these days, trendy off-the-rack dresses are available, too. Ditto for the attire of the groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen and flower girls.

FLOWERS

Local florists are adept at fashioning beautiful fresh flower bridal bouquets, family flowers, boutonnières, flower baskets, corsages and floral headgear. Alternatively, the same can be made ahead of time by crafters using stunning handmade flowers of satin, stocking, handmade paper, embellishments etc.

DECORATORS

Celebrations just wouldn’t be the same without a visually appealing ambience. This is accomplished by a decorator, who can make any venue look magical – including the church, pews, wedding hall, car and even the homes of the bridal couple.

NUPTIALS

The religious element of the wedding ceremony takes place in church and features a choir, song sheets and offertory items among other things. Light snacks and refreshments are served to guests following the ceremony.

WEDDING HALL

Reception hall favourites include the wedding buffet, wedding cake, champagne, wine, starters and ice sculptures – all handled by the caterers.

SONG & DANCE

The ‘Goan masala’ set and the wedding march are among the most-awaited parts of the wedding reception, made even more fun by the presence of a lively MC in the wedding hall.
