The annual ban on mechanized fishing has commenced in the state of Goa from today, June 1, 2022, and will go on till August 1, 2022.
The fishing ban allows sufficient time for the fish to breed along the coastal belt of Goa.
Trawler owners said that the fishing season was good as compared to the previous seasons however they raised issues regarding diesel subsidy and need for modernized fishing in Goa.
During the 61-days of ban, trawler owners will carry out repair and maintenance work. Also, the labourers employed on these vessels will return to their hometowns. At the same time the authorities will hold inspection at the jetty to ensure hygiene and safety.
