All you need to know about demolition of Curlies, Goa's famed beach shack

The demolition of Curlies beach shack began at around 7 am on September 9, 2022.

A case was filed in the year 2016 in the GCZMA for the demolition of the Curlies structure and, in turn, the beach shack owner had filed an appeal with the NGT which was dismissed a few days back.

Immediately after the dismissal of the appeal, the government machinery initiated the demolition of the structure.

The lawyer representing Curlies said that they were served notice of demolition on September 8 and the course of natural justice was not followed.

However, within 24 hours, the government machinery arrived at the spot and started demolishing the structure.

Besides, flaunting norms, Curlies has been known for several notorious reasons. It was in the limelight for the recent alleged murder of BJP Haryana leader Sonali Phogat. In 2008, it made headlines after British teenager Scarlett Keeling was found dead on Anjuna beach.

As the demolition work was on going, a Supreme Courts stay order was brought-in. The authorities had to halt the operation till the next hearing.

However, after a temporary break, the work of demolition started again.
