Summer is the best time to pick wild berries in Goa. Here are 5 best ones to try. These have antioxidant and medicinal properties.
1. CHARAM or CHAROLI
Scientifically known as Buchanania Cochinchinesis, these are known for their sour and sweet taste.
2. KANTAM
These are small berries which are fast becoming extinct due to change in the weather and environmental patterns.
3. BHEDASA
These belong to the Syzygium species and are largely found near waterbodies.
4. ZAMBLAM OR JAMUN
Scientifically known as Syzygium cumini, zamblam or jamun are quite popular and taste best with rock salt.
5. CHUNNAM
Pinkish-white berries (scientific name Ziziphus Rugosa) are locally known as chunnam. These are used to prepare anti-tumour and anti-cancer compounds.

These tiny wild berries are scientifically known as memecylon umbellatum, and locally called Anjan.
6. CHAFRA
Scientifically known as flacourtia montana, these are mostly found in deep forests of Goa and inside sacred groves.
