As the Catholic church celebrates the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8, here’s a list of a few churches in Goa which are named after the mother of Jesus Christ.

OUR LADY OF ROSARY CHURCH

Located in Navelim, Our Lady of Rosary Church, also known as Nossa Senhora do Rosaria em Navelim, was founded in 1597 by a French Jesuit.

OUR LADY OF SNOWS CHURCH

Known as Nossa Senhora das Neves Igreja em Raia in Portuguese, the Our Lady of Snows Church, in Raia, is most famous as being the first church in Goa to celebrate the Konsachem Fest on August 5 annually.

CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF PENHA DE FRANCA

Located in scenic Penha de Franca, near Panjim, the Church of Our Lady of Penha de França derives its name penha, which means ‘peak by the sea’, which is a reference to the location of the church.

PANJIM CHURCH

Built in the 1500s, the Immaculate Conception Church (Igreja da Imaculada Conceição) is probably Panjim's most famous landmark and tourist attraction.

THE MOTHER OF GOD CHURCH

The Mother of God Church, is located in Pomburpa, North Goa, and exhibits the Mannerist Neo-Roman style of architecture.

CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF THE MOUNT

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount (Capela da Nossa Senhora do Monte), Old Goa, was constructed under the orders of Afonso de Albuquerque, the then governor of Portuguese India.
