The annual monsoon mud festival of Goa, Chikal Kalo, took place on Friday, June 30 at the Devaki Krishna temple, Marcel.

Chikal Kalo is a unique festival that takes place in Goa. Another unique feature here is this is the only temple in India where Devaki and Krishna are worshipped together.

What follows the worship is Lord Krishna's playfulness of playing in the mud with his friends. Here, the devotees or participants, smeared with oil, play games in the mud for almost an hour. This playfulness as depcited here is also akin to paying obeisance to mother earth.

This year the festival was celebrated in association with the Tourism Department for the first time in a bid to also promote it for attracting tourists, keeping in tune with the Goa 365 days tourism tagline.
