Beyoncé really foresaw the future when she said “Girls run the world”. Switching that up just a little but quite literally, the SKF Goa River Marathon is back in action with their theme for 2022 being, “Women Run the World”.

We live in a world full of women who are multitaskers and constantly on their feet. So why not encourage them to put the fun in a run?

Addressing a press conference in Panjim, Nitin Bandekar, President of the Vasco Sports Club said, “We want to promote the importance of social inclusion and welcome female runners and walkers of all ages from across the country.”

We are also offering a 15 per cent discount for every woman registrant and for the first time, the prize money of Rs 8 lakh will be equal for both men and women,” he added.

Originally started by the Vasco Sports Club, the SKF Goa River Marathon came into being 12 years ago and has gone on to become recognised and respected as one of the most popular marathons in India. Not only does it have an AIMS-certified route but is also an extremely well-organised event, as claimed by many previous participants.

Running may seem like a task, but running along the scenic Zuari River and one of the toughest marathon courses in the country whilst breathing in the beauty of Goa and its landscape makes it worth your energy. And as if that isn't rewarding enough, there is a big glass of beer waiting for you at the end of the finish line!

This year, the marathon is being held on December 11, 2022. It will start and finish at the Chicalim Panchayat Grounds. Participants can bring out their competitive side by participating in any of the following three categories: 42 km (full marathon), 21 km (half marathon) and the 10 km race. But if you are just looking for a fun run to laugh along the way and pant your way to the finish line, then the 5 km fun run is exactly what you are looking for.

The 42-km marathon will begin at 4 am in order to avoid the heat and humidity for as long as possible. The 21 km will begin at 5:40 am, the 10 km at 6:30 am and the 5 km at 7:30 am. The roads will be free from traffic and medical and hydration facilities will be available on-site in order to stay on the safer side of things. The event is anticipating a crowd of around 6000 people this year.

"I have run many marathons in India and every runner that I speak to talks about Goa as being one of the best, finest organised runs across the country,” said Manish Bhatnagar, Managing Director, SKF India Ltd.
