The three youths started their challenge at 8.14 am on Miramar Beach, Panjim, and plan to continue until evening, when they will be joined by other fitness enthusiasts and members of the calisthenics group.
In Goa, calisthenics, is an emerging form of exercise. It utilises the body's own weight as resistance, and is performed with minimal equipment, making it accessible to people of all fitness levels.
While September 14 is an ordinary day for most people, for Aviral, Jayesh Pednekar and Roger D'Silva, it is a day to celebrate and push themselves to achieve their goal.
These three fitness buffs are part of the Goa Calisthenics Movement, a community of dedicated professionals working hard to promote calisthenics in Goa.
Today, on World Pull-Up Day, these three hope to touch a record of 2,000 pull-ups.
Founder of the Goa Calisthenics Movement, Aviral, who is determined to achieve 2,000 pull-ups by the end of the day, says that the goal of their challenge is to create awareness of calisthenics and inspire others to take up the practice.
He also believes that calisthenics is a great way to build strength, endurance and flexibility. "I, myself, am trying to make this work and see if I can achieve the set mark. Last year, on World Pull-Up Day, I did 500 pull-ups and this year, the number is much higher," adds Aviral.
He also says that this might be just 0.1 percent of what calisthenics is all about, but their community is trying to take it to a larger audience and demonstrate how it's done.
In addition to the physical benefits, calisthenics is seen as a form that can have a positive impact on mental health. It is said that it is a great way to reduce stress, anxiety and boost self-confidence and self-esteem.
Jayesh Pednekar, who hails from Porvorim, is quiet keen on discovering for himself how he will be able to achieve the goal that they have set. "We are constantly keeping the timer. For each minute, we are trying to do at least 3 to 4 pull-ups," he adds.
The three fitness enthusiasts, from Goa, are setting a great example for others by challenging themselves and pushing their limits.
